FAREWELL TO REV. MR. HOBDAY
A farewell i.social" was given at St. Matthew's Schoolroom, Brooklyn,' last evening by the parishioners to the' Rev. R. H. and Mrs. Hobday, who are leaving Brooklyn to take over the parochial district of Eltham. Among those present were the Rev. B. Hudson (Presbyterian) iand the Rev. J. H. White .(Methodist). Both of the, reverend /gentlemen made speeches; in which they expressed their regret at losiiig Mr. Hobday. During his residence at Brooklyn, they said, Mr. Hobday had shown a broad-minded spirit in all his dealings with them, and they were sorry to have him go. Mr. Westwood, on behalf of the parishioners and friends, presented Mr. Hobday with a well-filled purse of sovereigns, and in the course of a neat little speech referred to the loss which the Anglican community at Brooklyn would suffer through MrHobday's transference. The guest of the evening suitably responded. During the evening soiigs were given by the Misses Herzog, Moore, Probyn, Thomas, and Wilson, Messrs. Laycock,-, 1 Phipps, and the vicar, and a recitation'by Mr. Beattie.
