DARK DAYS IN RUSSIA

SOLELY, DUE TO GERMAN

AGENCIES

OLD REGIME 'ENCOURAGING

DRINKING.

(AUSTBAUAX-NIW ZEALAND CAIH ASSOCIATION.)

(Received June 1, 12.30 p.m.')

Jubilation for the conquest of political freedom has given place to forebodings. There has been practically no war news in Russia for a month past. The Workmens' and Soldiers' Council, in a manifesto, protests against the prevalence of drinking, and ascribes it to the machinations of the old regime. Nobody now doubts that the revolution originated entirely through the German ' agents working on both sides, influencing the Government and the people. German interests are still active in the interior, persuading the peasants to commit outrages with a view to destroying the next harvest. German emissaries, posing as Russian patriots, have done possibly irreparable harm in the Russian army and navy. • ■
