OTAKI RACES
,-. no: railway facilities.
Complaints have been made to The osfc from many quarters that the Bailway Department has decided, not only that it'will not run special trains to the Otahi traces, but that it will not carry race -goers to or from Otaki on the or-dinary-mail trains. This, a Post reporter Meamed to-day, is the policy of the Department under the war conditions prevailing. While the war lasts the policy-of the Department is not to cater lor racing traffic. That policy, it is pointed; out, has been announced over and over again, and, in accordance therewith, no special facilities were provided for the ;Palmerston North, Auckland, or Dunedin races.' That is the fixed policy of the"'Department while the war lasts. As to '.ordinary.,trains stopping at Otaki for race-goers, the - Department points out that undor-.the -curtailed system the accommodation i 3 limited, and deaignetJ only for those who are compelled to travel in the ordinary course of business, and who "ought not to be crowded out by tho£e who merely want to go to the races. •
