AIR-FIGHTS ON SUNDAY \ TWENTY-THREE GERMAN MACHINES BROUGHT DOWN LONDON, 28th May. Sir Douglas Haig reports : We successfully raided the enemy's lines east of Vermelles. The enemy ridded a small post north-east of Ypres. There were many air fights on Sunday. Twenty-three of the enemy's machines were brought down, and three of ours are missing. . The New Zealand High Commissioner reports :— LONDON, 29th May. Sir Douglas Haig reports : South-west of Lens and west of Mesaines hostile raiders during the night were driven off. At Ploegsteert Wood we carried out successful raids. In the neighbourhood of Bullecourt, and on both banks of the Soirpe the enemy's artillery was active during the night.
