ST. ALBAN'S, EASTBOURNE
There, was a good attendance at the annual meeting of parishioners held in, the Eastbourne Hall last "evening, and the acting-Vicar (Rev. T. Gardner) occupied fihe chair.
The churchwardens report that since the opening of mo church has filled a, great need in the district, its'influence has oxtended far, and' many ha^B been greatly benefited by its ministry. During the summer the parish is filled witli visitors, and'the services of the , church are quite,a. part of the holiday life, and are much appreciated, by visitors. St. Alban'a has no seat rents, no.bazaars, no concerts;. nor any similar entertainment for raising funds. The weekly expenditure of the church is £6 12s, which is met by the free-will offerings of friends and visitors. As the district progresses and the permanent population becomes larger, the parish will liquidate its own expenses, but meantime the vestry feel it is more than justified in maintaining a permanent minister in such an important seaside parish. The officers elected for the ensuing year -wore : Vicar's churchwarden, Mr. T. Ballanger; parishioners' churehgarden,- ilr. Thos. W. Pilcher; vestry (fixed at eight), Messrs. P. Atkinson, C. A. Baker, A. G. Ballinger, De la Mere, H. Downs, W. P.. C. Macpherson, 0. Russell, and S. 1?. Wright; auditor, Mr. T. W. F. Maraden. Special votes of thanks were p&sscd to the various churchwardens, and io Mr. R. L. Button, who has left the district, for Qiis many services cm behalf of the church in, various capacities.' The accounts show that .the ' general offertories amounted to £182 4s 4d, an increase of £16. and the special offertories to £40 VI lid, also anL.increase of £16 over last year. The debt on the church was reduced by £20—15s during-tho year, and at 31st March stood at £479. Since that date, however, ,£49 additional has been paid off, leaving a balance of £430. Several subscriptions to special church funds, totalling £51 8s 2d, were received, and in addition the land sold at Day's Bay was paid for. The Sunday schools at Muritai and Da^'o Bay are well' attended, and are self-sup-porting, a very pleasing feature.
