A.P.U.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE OPENS.

The annual conference of -the A.P.U. (Agricultural and Pastoral Workers' Union), with which is incorporated the Shearers' Union, opened in the Accountants' Chambera yesterday. Those present are Messrs. A* J. King (Timaru), president; C. Grayndler (Wellington), secretary; delegates: Meesra. W. Boons (Chrifltchurch), R. Eddy (Christchurch), E. Kennedy (Christchunii), A. Cook (Christehurch), W. T. Adair (Lumedcn), J. Towneend (Wanganui), J. Mcc (Wellington), P. J. Kay (Manawatu FlaxmiU Workers' Union), W: M'Lennan (Waikato Flaxmill Workers' Union). Messrs.. J., Townsend and A. Cook were nominated for the position of president, and the former was elected. The following resolution was passed: — "That this conference of theN.Z. A.P.U., sitting in Wellington, is in entire sympathy with 7 the coal-miners now on strike in New Zealand, and promises them its moral and financial support." Another resolution passed wae: — "That- this conference oS the A.P.U., sitting in Wellington, extends to all municipal Labour candidates in New Zealand its full support, and wishes them success in their candidature."

It was decided that the Manawatu and Waikato Flaxmill Workers' Union and 'the Auokland General Labourers' Union be linked up with the A.P.U. The conference w now discussing the question of the linking up of the A.P.U. aud tha 'A.W.U. (Australian Workers' Union).
