APPROACHING TRANSPORTS

MOTOR BOATS AND YACHTS

According to the War Regulations, gazetted, on 10th. November, 1914, it is not permissible for unauthorised motor boats, yachts, or, any other : craft to approach transports while lying at anchor in any New Zealand harbour. Latterly this regulation has been more honoured in the breach than the observance, and in consequence it has been decided to strictly enforce it for the future. Tbe regulation states: — "For the purpose of securing the public safety in respect of the present war a military authority may station an armed guard at any building, ship, or place whatsoever,' whether public or private. Such guard may fire upon or otherwise attack any perron who by day or night, in risregard of a warning received from the guard, approaches, enters, or leaves, or attempts to approach, enter, or leave, the building, ship, or placo so guarded. All members of the defence forces stationed at any fort, battery, ship, or camp, shall be deemed for the purposes, of these regulations to be an armed guard there stationed by a military authority. Anyone disregarding this regulation m future will bo liable to the penalty stipulated.
