Private advice has been received in Invercargill of ; the death from wounds received in France of Corporal Chas. H. J, Clare. Deceased, "who. was-48 years of age at the time of his death; left with the 14th Reinforcements, and in January, 1916, was given a send-off by the heads of the various municipal departments, with one of which he was connected. Corporal Clave was the second son of tho late Captain Clare, and was born in Invercargijl' and educated at the South School and afterwards at the Riverton School. He was for about nineteen years harbourmaster at. Invercargill, a position his father had occupied for some twenty yeWs. before. '.
