': Seventeen years ago Mr. Welch commenced business in Masterton, and today his is certainly the, largest and most important labour agency in the whole Wairarapa. For 1916 his engagements on behalf of employers totalled 800, which must be a record for any such business outside a large city. In addition to the labour agency ■work Mr. Welch, in conjunction with Mr. James, conducts an extensive sharebrokers' business. Land agency is another important part of his business, and a large list of good properties can be inspected at any time. His register is full of farms .and properties throughout the North Island, while businesses of all kinds and town residences on his books are innumerable. Valuations are made, loans negotiated, rents and debts are collected, and all branches of general commission work are undertaken.
