EXTRAORDINARY OBSTACLES OVERCOME. ARTILLERY BREAKS COUNTER-ATTACKS (Received February 1, 10.40 a.m.) PETROGRAD, 31st January. ; The Russian successes in the Carpathians (in Southern Bukowina) on .Saturday were conducted despite extraordinary obstacles. The artillery cut ten rows of entanglements across fallen trees, and the infantry, with irresistible dash, rushed the enemy's trenches in a. few minutes oji a front of three ■thousand yards. The enemy brought up all.his reserves, but the Russian artillery broke the counter-attacks. ' .
