TECHNICAL ASSAULT
An affair in Egmont-street on 12th instant was enquired into in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Charles Reddy was charged with assaulting Pearl Blair. Defendant pleaded not guilty, and was defended by Mr:' J. J. M'Grath. The evidence showed that the complainant, who lived a-t Petone, went to Reddy's house on the day in question and indulged in a certain amount of liquor. On. returning to his home, Reddy became angry at seeing the woman present, and pushed her out of the back door into the yard. Here the Roman's head apparently struck some stones, as the injuries to the back of the head were consistent with this having occurred. Giving evidence on his own behalf, Reddy stated that Blair was of bad character, having been several times in prison. He objected to her comp*ny, but was not aware that he had acted so roughly at the time. He expressed sorrow for what he had done. The Magistrate (Mr. W. G. Riddell. S.M.): "The defendant used more force than was necessary, but.he had a good deal of provocation. The assault was merely a technical one, and 1 am prepared to dispose of it under Section 02 of the Justices of the Peace Act. Tlie information will be dismissed on condition defendant pays £2 2s' medical expenses."
