INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING.

The twenty-first annual meeting of the Wellington Provincial Industrial Association was held last night, Mr. F. J. .Evans (president) in the chair. 'There was a fair attendance of members.

In moving the adoption 'of the annual report aud balance-sheet (the details of which have been published), the Chairman said that steps had been taken to formulate proposals which would help them to put* their industries in* proper train at the end of the war. He stressed the need for an increase of membership and invited suggestions as .to tho-way in, whicii the association could be helped along. He plaid a high tribute to the work done by the.secretary (Mr.* H. F. Allen), and also thanked the press for its help in keeping the association befor the notice of the public. The motion was seconded »y Mr. T. Ballinger, who incidentally mentioned that the association stai-ted in 1895, that the late Mr. C. Cathie was the first secretary, and that he was succeeded by Mr. Morpeth. As te the finances, he pointed cut that, as £1100 had been invested in war loan certificates, they would get no interest on that amount for five years, aud therefore would require an accession of members to keep them financial.

The .report and balance-sheet were adopted, and it. was decided to deposit the war loan certificates in the Post Office strong room: ' The following officers were ele6terl :— President, Mr. F. J. Evans (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. L. T. Watkins and H. Mainland;' treasurer, Mr. R. j. Hardie Shaw (re-elected); ■ auditors, Messrs. A. T. Clarke and A. S. Biss (reelected) ; committee, J. P. Luke, F. C. Crease, T. Ballinger, J, A. Plimmer (original members of the association), T. R. Biirt. S. C. Baron, E. Bull, M. Manthel, W. M'Lay, C. Palliser, ■J. Stewart, C. J. Ward, F. Rouse, G. W. Slade, C. G. Sherwood. W. L. Palmer, L-.fi. Patridge, C. B. Norwood, H. H. Reid, R. G. Denton, W. Cable, W J. Thompson, and R. Hall.*
