WORK OF NAVY LEAGUE

MORE MEMBERS OF ORGANISATION WANTED. The annual report of the Wellington branch of the Navy League, to be, presented at the annual, meeting to-night, states that since the great war started there has been a national appreciation of the fact that the British Navy is " our all in all." Naval writers, adds the,; report, have not been slow in admitting the fact that the educative work of the league carried out for many years past, and its timely counterblasts to "Little Navy" agitations, has had far-reaching results in convincing the public at large of the dire danger of naval retrenchment. The hands of the Admiralty have been thereby strengthened and the Navy Votes expedited in the House of Commons. Both in the Mother I Country and in this Dominion a I quickened interest has been aroused- in the Navy Lejague.' This increased activity has.meant extra work and correspondence for the Wellington branch. Other places' have for years past .looked to Wellington as a central depot for. league supplies and information generally as to mode of procedure for' the formation of new branches. The Wellington executive asks existing subscribers to canvas for. more members'. The practical work in the past more than justifies this appeal. It was .on the initiative of the Wellington branch in 1904 that many public bodies joined with the league in urging a naval subsidy.
