17th REINFORCEMENTS

SECOND HALF MARCHES THROUGH 'CITY.

Tlie second half of the 17th Reinforcements marched through the principal city streets this afternoon, leaving Government Buildings at 3 o'clock. Tlie column comprised A, E, F, J, and part of H Companies and. Divisional Medical Corps. The men, who were under the command of Capt. F. E. Beamish, created equally as favourable an impression as the first half of the 17ths, who marched through on Saturday. They were given a good rectpoion by thousands of spectators who lined the streets. Several bands were included in the length of the column and eniievened the march by playing patriotic airs. There was also a general display of bunting in honour of the occasion.

Prior to the ma_rch, the Trentham Band played a number of selections a.t Lambton Railway Station, which were much enjoyed by tlie assembled crowd.

Flags were freely sold in the streets by 25 lady members of the D.I.C. staff during the afternoon, in aid of the Soldiers' Christmas Gifts' Fund. On Saturday afternoon a similar contingent from Messrs. Kirkcaldie and Stains's staff also sold flags on behalf of the same fund with pronounced success.
