A CONSTABLE'S DISMISSAL
COMMISSION OF ENQUIRY.
<BI TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
GREYMOTFTH, This Day.
The Commission, consisting of Mr. Bishop, S.M., Police-Inspector Norwood, and Mr. Crowther, retired Customsofficer, has completed the evidence here into the charges which led to the dismissal of Constable Peter. Maloney from the Police Force. Maloney was dismissed'for alleged gross misconduct, in that he received' £4 10s by falsely representing the same as owing to Patrick Dinan, by whom vouchers were signed for scavenging fees. Dinan said" he did I not at any time do the work, and did I not even know where the police closets were. Maloney denied this absolutely, stating that the work was done by Dinan, and produced a letter from Dinan in which Dinan said that he was told he was noj. attending to the latrines regularly, and declaring that he attended to them twice weekly in warm and once a week in cold weather. This letter Dinan said he copied from a letter written by Maloney. The letter in question was not produced at the official engjiiry held prior to Maloney's dismissal. The evidence before the Commission was mainly on the question, of credit-ability: t The. Commission's report is returnable' to the Government before 31st August.
