CIIY MILK SUPPLY
ANOTHER ABORTIVE CON
FERENCE,
Still another conference of dairy farmers and representatives of the milk vendors was held in the City Council Chambers last night, but no decision was reached. The Vendors' Association presented the following resolution :—
"That the association is prepared to reduce the price to the public for July and August, 1916, to the prices charged for July and August, 1915, namely, 5d per quart, provided the Wellington Dairy Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., reduces its prices to the vendors for July and August, 1916, to the prices charged for July and August, 1915."
The proceedings were in committee, and the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), who presided, after.the meeting said that he regretted very much that the conference was. abortive. The farmers contended that the conditions in winter were such that they could not possibly incur any further loss at the present time. They had to buy feed to keep the milk supply going, and prices were so high that they were unable to see their way to meet the proposal of the milk vendors. Mr. Luke will probably advise the City Council to invoke the aid of the Board of Trade to deal with the matter.
