STEAMER.

RIO DE JANEIRO, sth May..

The news is officially confirmed that the Brazilian steamer Rio Branco (3258 tons) has been torpedoed. The news has caused a sensation in Brazil, and the Government of that Republic has notified the German Legation at Rio that they have ordered an urgent enquiry in order to take action in defence of their rights as neutrals. The newspapers say that Germany regards herself at war wifli the whole world, and call on the President of Brazil to rise to the level of his country's destinies.
