I At the Poultry Conference this afternoon. Messrs. E. Gallichan and R: W. Hawke were elected vice-presidents; Mr. J. B. Merrett was re-elected secretary, Mr. J. A. Simson was elected assistant secretary, Mr. C. Renn was re-elected hon. auditor, and Mr. F. C. Brown, Government Poultry Expert, was reelected adviser. "essrs, S. H. Scott, A. G. Miunßy, W. Knight, G. Finn, and E. 0. Reilly were elected executive of the Poultry Association. In a little paper published in "Lausanne, Switzerland (La Voix de l'Humanite), last month there a.ppears an interesting paragraph. It is taken from the leading journal of Switzerland (Journal de Geneve), and states that leading Germans declare that Germany is willing to surrender to France Alsace-Lorraine if ■Germany is guaranteed "best favoured nation " treatment in trade. The Swiss paper suggests peace should be sought on the lines suggested. A commendable desire that no distinctions should be drawn between the honour shown by- the National llcserve to departing recruits, whether they be pakeha or Maori, led to an unfortunate fiasco (states the Poverty Bay Herald). When members of the Reserve and the City Band paraded at 7.30 to farewell a draft of Natives leaving the join the Maori contingent at Auckland it was found that only one recruit had *nt in an appearance Rather than overdo the send-off, the parade was accordingly dismissed.
