. " With all due respect, I would liketo point out to your Worship that the use of filthy language in the- streets of Wellington is becoming all too common," said Inspector Hendrey in the Magistrate's Court to-day. The Inspector suggested that less lenient treatment would probably havo the desired effect. Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., said he was sorry to say that he agreed with what Inspector Hendrey had said. Too many charges of obscene language came before him. In tho case under notice—a particularly bad one—his Worship imposed a sentence of two months' imprisonment. The Petone Working Men's Club was successful in winning last evening tho Staples Shield, which is periodically competed for in a Morris tube shooting and card and draughts tournament between its members and tiiose of the Wellington Working Men's Club. The games were played at Petone.
