NEWTOWN
The wintry conditions prevailing and the fact that there was no election for members of the committee was no doubt responsible for the small attendance of householders at the Newtown School. Mr. John Castle presided. The annual report stated that nearly the whole of the playground was now asphalted, and thus considerably improved. Congratulation's were extended to the Library Committee of the City Council on its continued interest in the schools' librai-y exchange system, thus providing a very valuable addition to the school library. The scholars' efforts in patriotic matters were also mentioned. The collection for homeless children on Guy Fawkes Day resulted in the sum of £55 8s being obtained. Thanks were due to Mr. IT. Crcngel for presenting a gold merlal for the dux of the school, also to the W.C.T.U. for essay prizes; and to tho headmaster (Mr. Parkinson) and staff for their work in maintaining the standard of the school.
