Tho annual conference of the Mattel Plumbers'. Mr. Co'vilk: referred to the endeavour to keep rcgistnillon open, so as to prevent a close 'corporation. In the opiji : ion of the conference elderly members should be granted-.'registration- without examination. He also stated thr.t.v.the examinations-.were conducted-in such :- manner that, out o? eighty, men .coming forward'only, ten were able to pass. Ho urged' that "an opportunity should-b?. given to students'to take their examinations in-stages, as in the case of other examinations.'.

Mr. J. B. Laurenson pointed out th.'-t in the early stages of the Act it. was fully understood that men who had.been, engaged all, their lives in the .trade should bo registered, but this had net been the case, and many cases 'of hardship' were kno\y.n. The speaker gave some illustrations of tho hardships that had' occurred. . .

Mr. Ballitiger emphasised the necessity of extending to men of mature age the light to register Tinder clause C of the Act, a, right which the Plumbers' Board, denied; and also gave some fiirUiei- instences of hardships that had occurred. .Ho referred to the shortage cf men which had ensued, owing to.the number who had enlisted. ■ . : :■■
