PUBLIC ENQUIRY ASKED FOR

Mr. Wilford has sent the following telegram to the Minister for Railways (Hon. W. H. Herries): —

"Hon. W. Herries, Wellington,—Aa M.P. for Hutt, I request that a public enquiry be ordered into the casualty which occurred at Petone Railway Station yesterday. Three lives have been lost quite recently, and unless some change is immediately arranged a further toll will undoubtedly follows When experts like Messrs. Clay and Chapman cannot escape death, the place may surely be described as a death-trap. My constituency looks to you for immediate action.—Thomas M. Wilford."

The Mayor of Petone (Mr. 'J. W. M'Ewan) has sent the following telegram to the Minister for Railways:—"Suggest that number of fatal accidents occurring at Petone Railway Station should form subject of immediate enquiry."
