ANNIVERSARY DAY

To-morrow being Anniversary Day, will be generally observed as * holiday by banks, Government offices, mercantile offices, and tradesmen. It is not one of the holidays which, when it falls on a Saturday, may be observed on the Monday following. There will be no special celebration in Wellington, and the principal event of a public character will be the race meeting at Trentham. A special timetable has'been arranged for ihe Eastbonrne ferry service.

Cabinet has approved the recommendation of the Minister for Education that teachers who are married after they enlist should have their military pay augmented to an equivalent of one and a-quarter times their salary when they obtain commissions. Previously this has only been done in the case of teachers who are married when they enlist and obtain commissions.

Sixty-seven men who have been in training at Awapuni Camp as the staff for the hospital ship Maheno, arrived in Wellington this morning. They will be quartered at the Drill Hall, Buckle- ( street, until th« arrival of the ship, when they jvill jKnbuk.
