THERE MUST BE NO FALTERING

M. POINCARK'S ADDRESS TO FRENCH TROOPS.

LONDON, Ist January. M. Poincare, the President, in a message to the French troops everywhere, says; —

"France is showing a cold, deliberate determination to. hold on and conquer. Th'o problem does not admit of a halfway solution, and;any peace offering ambiguous compromises and bastard combination can only bring breath of deceitful appearances, dishonour, ruin, and ■ enslavement. Who, then, through impatience and weariness would thus sell to Germany the past and future of France? It is true the-war is long, arduous, and sanguinary, but how many sufferings will be spared us in future by our at present? No Frenchman has committed the crime of desiring war, but now. with faithful Allies we must carry on to the annihilation of German militarism and the complete reconstruction of France. Any faltering would be ingratitude to our dead and treason to posterity."
