Serse.int-Ma.ior G. H. Baker, who is reported missing from the troopship Marquette, for many years represented Nat. Wrods and Co., Lta.. in C'u'istchureh. He left with the Ist Reinforcements fi.r Samoa as a private, and was one of the few men in Samoa to get a'titrip<;. On his return ho volunteered to go .vith the No. 1 New Zealand Stationary Hospital. His ability was recognised, and he quickly rose to the rank of sergeant-major. He played hockey in the senior grade of the Lvttelton Club, and represented Canterbury on one or two occasions.
