In accordance with instructions forwarded by the Imperial Government, notices have been sent, out to all the cheese-producing factories of the Dominion that during the season ending in June nest, a third of each factory's output is required for army purposes. The price paid will be 7Jd per lb f.o.b. The Prime Minister (Bight Hon. W F. Massey) informed a Post reporter to-<iy that the cheese thus " commandeered " will amount to some 15,000 tons, and that it was hoped to get the first shipment away this month. The method of payment would be the same as that which had worked so well in connection with Imperial meat. The cheese would be paid for on the production of ■ the necessary documents showing thai the cheese had been delivered at the ship. The amount involved is over £1,000,000. Mr. Massey went on to remark that on 10th September a meeting of theesc. makers at Hawera discussed the question of the Imperial Government commandeering part of the cheese output of the Dominion, and a motion was moved that the Government be asked to commandeer 20 per cent, of tV t.ntmit and p:iy 7d ocr lb at ths grading stores.
