The machinery for Lord Derby's scheme is nearing completion. Two hundred thousand men and women canvassers are fast enrolling recruits, and 468 recruiting committees are also at work.

Nearly one thousand i.ostmen at Birmingham have joined the A.rmy, and have been replaced by women.
