HUTT PARK CONTROL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

The quarterly meeting of the H\*t Park Committee was iicid last night. There were present: Messrs. J. W. M'Kwa-n (chairman), C. P. Brocklebank, J. Brasell, A. Hobbs, t. W. Pilcher, aud M. J. Hodgins.

The request of the Waiwetu Golf Club for the use of the Park on the same terms as last year was granted.' It was pointed out that only a few members, and not the club as a whole, used the ground.

It was resolved to instruct the secretary to write to the Wellington City Council and point out that, as the agreement existing between the council and the committee had not been adhered to with respect to the Hutt Park-road, the committee may be called upon to close the road in its own interests. The Chairman stated that the city was very slow in some matters, and this was one of them.

It was resolved to instruct the engineer (Mr. A. Cowie) to ascertain the expenditure of the Trotting Club on the grounds, and. if the amount of £250 had been spent in improvements . £50 would be handed to the club, in keeping with the agreement.

An inspection of the Hutt Park had been made by the- chairman and the engineer, and satisfaction was expressed with the improvements which had been earned out by the Trotting Club. In his report, the caretaker (Mr. C. J. Leatham) stated that he had supplied the Maoris with wire for the bbnndary fence. He had also erected twenty-one chains of fencing from the Maoris' boundary fence to the Waiwetu bridge. The piece of ground which had been ploughed in August had been rolled, harrowed, and sown with grass. As the golfing season was concluded, he> would -suggest that the green in front of the entrance to the plantation be removed about 30yds from the gate, as plaj> on the green was a source of danger to the public entering the plantation, and was also responsible for breaking down the shrubs and destroying the plants, owing to golfers recovering balls hit' into the plantation. TJiere was ample room for'another green to replace this one. Rubbish was being tipped on the- vacant section at the south corner of the Park. He had endeavoured to stop the practice, but was unable to do so.

It was decided to have a warning notice placed at. the spot named, to foi'bid the- tipping of rubbish.

Tile rest of the report was referred to ■the engineer, with instructions to act.
