♦ . TRADE UNION FUNDS NEWSPAPER SHARES PURCHASE ULTRA VIRES. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (TIMES, AND SYDNBT SUN SEItVICES.) LONDON, 15th October. Mr. Justice Younger, giving judgment on the question whether a trades union can apply its funds to subscribing for the shares in a Labour newspaper, held that a transaction of this kind by the Boilermakers' Union was ultra vires. The union was personally liable to make a refund of £1000 invested at interest of 4 per cent, from the date of the payment.
