\ CONTINUAL FIGHTING NEAR DVINSK ENEMY REPULSED NEAR TARNOPOL. The' High Commissioner reports : — LONDON, 16th October, 2.45 a.m. On the Dvinsk front there is con'fcinual fighting, the Russians having captured Garvanitz cemetery, north of Staively. On the Pripet front, the enemy were thrown back from the river, near the village of Nobel. , West of Tarnopol the enemy attacked on the flank, but were thrown back to the river Strypa. _ On 14th October the enemy made four attacks in twenty-four hours, all ot which were repulsed, the attackers being hurled back in disorder. (PRESS ASSOCIATION.) PETROGRAD, 16th October. A communique states : The artillery duel is developing great intensity at Dvinsk. We carried the village of Gavarantzy, west of Lake Obole. We threw the enemy across the Pripet near Nobel. A flank attack west of Tarnopol threw 'the Germans back towards the Strypa with heavy losses. We repulsed a strong attack at Haivoronka, the enemy retreating from his trenches in disorder. An official communique says: — The G >rmans at Dvinsk made several attacks along the Illoukstroad and south of Lake Medum. "We captured a farm between Lakes Demmen and Drisviaty after a desperate fight. There are good reports of the enemy's very heavy losses in the recent fighting at Dvinsk. The enemy's desperate attacks at Hivoronka, west of Trembovla, following a hurricane of artillery fire, were repulsed. The High Commissioner reports : — LONDON, 17th October.. 4.50 a.m, A Zeppelin bombed the town of Minsk. THE GERMAN REPORT. AMSTERDAM. 16th October. A German communique states : A Russian attack westward of Dvinsk failed. We captured 445 prinsoners north-east-ward of Wesselhoff. The Russians were repeatedly repulsed north-eastward and southward of Smorgon.
