SUBURBS CLUB. The Suburbs Club opened its season on the Miramar Range between teams picked by the president and the secretary from those who attended. The former's team won. Details are appended :—: —

On Labour Day, the 25th inst., the club will fire its a-nnual match against Linton Club, Palmerston North, at Miramar. All members are requested to put in an appearance on the range next Saturday, in view of the above matches. The match will be 20 men a-side. HIGHLAND CLUB. The Highland Defence Rifle Club held its first practice at Trentham on Saturday, when teams selected by the president and deputy-president tried conclusions. The result was a win for the former team by four points, after a very exciting finish. Owing to the unavoidable absence of. the patron (Lieut. -Col. Mackintosh) the opening shot was fired by Capt. Hobbs, one of the vice-presi-dents, who was fortunate enough to register a "bull." It wae a rifleman's day, and none lost the opportunity of adjusting their sights in readiness for the first series, which will commence next Saturday. The shooting was good, considering no flags were available, and Rifleman Pitt headed the list with 76 out of a possible 85. He was closely followed by Rifleman Priddey, with 75. It was intended to fire ten shots at 300 yds and ten at 500, but owing to the pressure of time it was decided to fire only seven shots at the longer range. This was the club's first visit to Trentham this season, and the members were gratified to find that the Defence authorities had made every possible arrangement to ensure a good afternoon's practice. Following are the detailed scores : —

PETONE WORKING MEN'S CLUB. The fourth competition among the members of the Petone Working Men's Club Rifle Club, for^prizes presented by the citizens of Petohe, resulted as follows;—P. Devine 263 points, P. Simpson 262, A. Phare 261, J. Richardson 259, D. Campbell 258, and A. Anderson 256. All the above receive trophies, and in addition the following receive cash prizes: — D. Campbell, W. Reesby, P. M'Kee, B. Childs, A. Phare, T. Stickells, and J. Wood. On Tuesday evening the second team of the club will fire a match against the second team of the Petone National Reserve, at the club range. — — i THE TRENTHAM RANGE REGULATIONS FOR ITS USE. 'Major A. A. Corrigan, Commander of No. 5 Area Group, has issued the following regulations governing the use of the Trentham Rifle Range on Saturday afternoons by members of rifle clubs : — On Saturdays special carriages for the troops will be attached to train leaving Lambton Station at 1.12 p.m. for the Defence siding at Trentham ; also the, train leaving Defence siding, Trentham, for Wellington at 5.30 p.m. Troops will confine themselves to the special carriages, andany men not travelling in the troop carriages allotted will be required to pay their own fares. In order to pass the camp guard, units on detraining at Trentham fall in and march up to the range proper. Troops will fall in at rifle range refreshment booth, to be marched out of camp. Individual passes, in or out of camp, will not be issued. Applications for targets, showing number required and ranges, must be made by, letter, and are to reach the group officer not later than noon on Thursday of each week. The senior officer present will be responsible for the discipline on the range and en route. He may also detail officers to assist him in maintaining proper fire discipline on the range.
