CAULFIELD CUP WON BY LAVENDO

Results :—: — Oby Hurdlei, of 200 soys; two miles one furlong and sixty-foui^ya-rda. — Blackstep, 10.0, 1; Pariah, 9.0, 2; Bard of Avon, 9.8, 3. Nine started. Won by half a neck. Time, 3min B^sec. Gwyn Nursery, of 500 soys; for two-year-olds ; five furlongs. — Belgian Consort, 8.9, 1 ; First Comedy, 8.8, 2 ; Hopvig, 8.6, 3. Fourteen started. Won by a. head. Time, lmin 3^sec. Caulfield Cup, of 5000 soys. One mile and 3-ka.lf. La-vendo, 7.2 (Dempsey) 1 William the Silent, 6.13 (Meddick) ... 2 Cyklon. 8.3 (Lewis) 3 Golden Wire (8.9), Amata (7.7), a.nd Robert the Bruce (6.8), were scratched. Burrabadeen led past the stand by three-quarters of a length from William the Silent, who was half a length ahead of Garlin, with Lavendo moving up, and Defence,' Cyklon, and St. Carwyne last. Cyklon. ran into fourth place in another furlong, and then came Lavendo, Prince Bardolph, and Patrobas. Rounding the turn for homo, William the Silent, Garlin, Lavendo, and Cyklon were fighting for places. Lavendo got his nose in front at the half-distance, and beat William the Silent in the race home by a length, with Cyklon three-quarters of a length further back. Then came Garlin and Reputation, with Miss Meadows last. Time, 2min 34sec. Lavendo's win was a remarkable event, eeeting that a month ago he was running at'suburban meetings, his first win being in a second division handicap. His first good race was the October Stakes, when he beat Traquette and Di Gama at weight-for-age. Since then he has rapidly improved, and was warmly favoured for the Cup. He ran a fine race. ( Others who ran well were Cyklon, who beat several hotly- favoured candidates, and evidently needed a little more galloping, and Patrobas, Victoria's Derby candidate. _^ Wyuna Steeplechase, of 200 soys ; two miles three furlongs and eighty yards. — Highland Clan, 10.5, 1; Expiation, 10.0, 2; Big Bob, 11.1/3. Also started—Moonbarra. Won by £hree-quarters of a length. Time, 4min 38sec. Windsor Handicap, of 250 soys; six , furlongs. — Andesive, 7.7, 1; Amata, 8.10, 2 ; Euretta, 6.11, 3. Seven started. Won by a length. Time, lmin 15£ sec. Moora Welter, of 200 boys ; one mile. — Fidelio, 9.0, 1 ; Linass, 9.0, 2 ; Pistolier, 9.11, 3. Eighteen started. Won by two and a-half lengths. Time, lmin 42fsec. MIDDLE PARK PLATE LONDON, 16th October. The following was the result of the Middle Park Plate, of 1000 soys; six^ furlongs. — Argos 1, Sirian 2, Gratian 3.
