MINISTERIAL PORTFOLIOS

After Cabinet had met yesterday the Prime Minister announced that Sir Francis Bell would retain control of the Department of Immigration. The Hon. J. Hannn, who, it was intended, should take charge of this Department, had expressed a wish to be able to devote all his attention to the portfolio of Educa* tion. The Horn A. L. Ilerdman retains control of the Police Force, but the Minister for Justice (the Hon. Dr. M'Nab) will take charge of prisons. Mr. Herdmaai will undertake the work of helping tho returned soldiers. He will be concorned not only with men who have been sick or wounded, but with all who return, even if^in good health, and who require assistance to find work or who wish to go on the land.

A contract has been let to Messrs. Sanders Bros, for the erection of a large warehouse and store in Thorndon* quay for Massey-Harris and Co., Ltd. The building, which will have a frontage of 143 ft by. an average depth of 90ft, is to be one story, with brick walls 20ft high, on concrete pile foundations. Lighting will bo provided from the roof, except for the offices. Provision is made for a cartway through the building, and travelling cranes will be erected for the unloading and loading of goods. The building has been designed by Mr. J. M, Daweon, architect.
