CLEARANCES FROM BOND
The activity at the Customhouse in the clearance of goods from bond was so considerable last week that the revenue is said to be a record for the port of Wellington. The receipts totalled £51,788 15s lOd.the largest day's takings being on Friday, when £13,913 5s 2d was collected. The record is no doubt due to the expected increase in duty, which it is believed the Government is about to make.
Messrs. E. Johnston and Co. will hold an auction sale of building material, on the ground. Lower Cuba-street, to-mor-row, at 10.30 o'clock: and at 2 o'clock they will sell on the premises, No. 86, Taranaki-street, kauri and rimu building material.
