CAPTURE OF LEMBERG
RUSSIAN SUCCESS ON THE DNIESTER RUMANIA AND ITALY BRITISH SUCCESS AT HOOGE LINE MUCH IMPROVED Russian reports are to hand regarding the loss of Lemberg, which was abandoned after a sanguinary battle west of the town on Tuesday night. The Eussians appear to have stopped the German advance north of the town, and they also struck a heavy blow on the Dniester, assuming the offensive against the enemy's concentration of reinforcements on the eastern, part of the river line. The Allies' attacks continue in the west. !A thrilling story of the British attack at Hooge shows that the line there was much improved as the result. , An importa/nt speech was made in the House of Commons by Mr. Lloyd George, who is of opinion that with sufficient labour the output of munitions can be doubled in a few clays. An important contribution to our knowledge of the "attitude of Greece is given in a letter written by the ex- - Speaker of the Greek Chamber to his nephew, a member of ,the Australian Expeditionary Force.
