Only a short charge-sheet was presented to Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.. in, the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Bryda Sheehan pleaded guilty to having committed a 'grossly indecent act at the Te Aro Railway Station last night, and not guilty to a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond. Defendant, who has several previous convictions to her, discredit, and was •described by Inspector Hendrey as "a menace" to the community, was sent to gaol for twelve months. A well-dreesed young woman named Edith Conroy pleaded not guilty to a charge of having escaped from tho Salvation Army Home. She was remanded until Monday next. Peter Hughes," an old inebriate, -was sent to gaol for two months. Five other inebriates were dealt with as first offenders. Thomas Middleton, who was found helplessly drunk, was remanded for a week for medical treatment. Robert Murphy was fined 10s, or 48 hours in default, for having used threatening behaviour in Cuba-street last night. Victor Fanning Fraser was charged with having assaulted Alfred Moscatt and Joseph Smythe. The charges were apparently the outcome of an hotel row. Defendant claimed that 'he had merely defended himself against an unprovoked assault. 'He was ordered to pay a fin© of 40s, or to go to gaol for three days.A trooper- was charged with stealing an electric accumulator, valued at £6, at Trentham, on 6th June, from Peter R. Baillie. Accused denied that he had stolen the accumulat6r, and stated that he had purchased it from another trooper for 30s. The Magistrate convicted accused, and fined him 40s, in default fourteen days' imprisonment.
