POSITION OF CANDDJATES. The result of polling for the queen candidates is to-day announced by the returning officer (Mr. E. J. Colley) to be as follows : — Miss A. M. A cheque for £4000 was received by the secretary of the Carnival Executive (Mr. J. Lewis) from Mr. John M 'Master for the candidature of the Trentham nominee, Mis 3 Doris M'Cormack. Mr. M'Master announced his intention a little while ago of giving 1000 acres of land in the Waikato. Arrangements were to have been made to raiße £4000 on the gift, but as it is not possible to do this before the poll closes to-morrow, Mr. M'Master has covered his gift with a cheque. ANNOUNCING THE RESULTS. The final count of votes in the Queen candidate poll will be commenced at the Patriotic Auction Mart, Willis-street, at noon to-morrow, in the presence of representatives of the candidates and the press. Arrangements have been made to announce at intervals the position of tho candidates. The poll closes at 9 p.m., but no announcement of the result will be made after 8 p.m. until the final figures are known. THE NEW KELBURN PROPERTYOWNER. Miss Enid Sturdey, who held the lucky ticket in the Kelburn villa art union, is a fair little child of four years of age, and resides with her mother at Hautana-square, Lower Hutt. Her mother is the widow of the late Mr. F. Sturdy, of Roslyn, Dunedin. Mrs. Sturdy is a lady of moderate 'means, and the acquisition of the house' will be much appreciated*. Among the various functions held by Nurse Lveritt's supporters was a social and dance in the Island Bay- Hall on the 2nd June, which resulted in a profit of £11 12s 3d. Opportunity was taken during the evening to present to Mrs. H. M'Ginty and Mr. W. H. Wakelin trophies won during the season for progress in swimming. Nurse Eventt's Committee also desires to acknowledge the receipt of £1 from Mrs. Marmont, portion of proceeds from sale of her patriotic verses, the total amount realised being shared between several candidates. To show the value of advertising, we may mention that Dwan Bros, presented a freehold section of land at Petone valued at £150 to be balloted for in favour of the West Coast candidate, Miss M'Enroe. There were so many enquiries for tickets, particularly by mail, that Dwan Bios, liad to put on a special clerk to attend to same. The Newi Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-tive Distributing Company has given a cheque for £150 for the Soldiers' candidate. In vacating the chair at the annual meeting of the Petone Bowling Club, Mr. A. Cowie (retiring president) said he desired to make a donation of £5 to go from the club towards the funds of the Hutt Valley Queen candidate. The incoming president (Mr. J. G. Castle) also donated £5 for the same object.
