By way of an experiment, it was decided to run an early morning car from Brooklyn to catch the first train. The Chief Librarian was authorised to extend the system of school libraries to the Wellington Girls' College. The Libraries Committee reported that it had granted the Wellington South section of the National Reserve permission to use the Newtown Library Lecture Hall for training purposes, subject to such training not interfering with the readers at the library. On the recommendation of the engineer it was decided that Balfour-road, Mornington, be taken over by the council as a public street. The City Solicitor was authorised to prepare the necessary notices requiring the owners of the private street known as" Zohrab-street to put same into a proper state of repair. As recommended by the Engineer, a request for the formation of a right-of-way between Central- terrace and Upland-road was not acceded to. A resolution was received ' from the Lyall Bay and Maranui Municipal Electors' Association urging the need for the construction of a traffic tunnel through the Kilbirnie hill. The council decided to reply that as this work could only be financed with loan money, the proposal could not be put before the ratepayers at present. Acting on the advice of the 'City Engineer that street-widening could be carried out with greater advantage in other thoroughfares, the council recommended unconditionally exemption from the operation of clause 117 of the Public Works Act that portion of Torystreet between Courtenay-place and Wakefield-street.
