PATRIOTIC FUNDS

THE NATIONAL SCHEME A TRUSTEE APPOINTED. The Wellington branch of the New Zealand Patriotic Society, at its meeting last evening, carried the following resolution : — "That the president, Mr. J. G. W. Aitken, be appointed to act in conjunction with his Worship the Mayor as trustee of the National Patriotic Fund, Wellington Carnival section; all moneys received to be paid to the trustees, the Town Clerk to act as treasurer of the fund." THE HOSPITAL SHIP LORD LIVERPOOL'S APPEAL. His Excellency the Governor ig now asking that contributions of articles required for the equipment of the Hospital Ship be sent in not later than 10th June, in order to allow time for any further articles to be purchased if need be. His Excellency is prepared to receive communications from the four centres of the Order of St. John, viz., Auckland. Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, and from the Mayors of these four cities, who, it is understood, have in certain cases been asked to act for outlying dis« tricts. Where this, however, is not practicable. His i Excellency would like all such communications to pass through local Mayors, but he hopes, owing to the great amount of work which • will fall upon him prior to the despatch of the ship, that associations will band themselves together in order that mat» ters may be thus expedited. These ar> rangements apply only to gifts in kind. Communications should be addressed to His Excellency the Governor. Govern* ment House, Wellington, and marked "Hospital Ship." As far as can be ascertained, the- sum' required for the equipment will bd £25,000, exclusive of the articles which it is hoped will be contributed, of which a list has already been published. Should there be any surplus available after the complete equipment it will be utilised for the benefit of the aiok and wounded whenever required. I The Pharmacy Board hae most gene* I rously offered to furnish the di'ngft and requirement* of the dispensary, and the Hon. Dr. Collins is personally communicating with them on the subject.
