DESPERATE BATTLE DEVELOPING ON NIDA FRONT ■ PETROGRAD, 4th May. Official. — There has been important skirmishing on the Bzura near Mistrevitze. A desperate battle has been developing since Saturday on the front from the Lower Nida as far as the Carpathians. In the region of Gladycheff the enemy's night attacks on the left bank of the Vistula were repulsed. We captured Mount Makuvka, in the direction of Stryj, taking prisoner ten officers and three hundred men. We repulsed the enemy"s barren attacks on the Dneister near Zaleszki (twenty miles from the Russian frontier, north of Czerrtowitz). JUBILATIONS IN BERLIN ' COPENHAGEN, 4th May. RUSSIAN ADVICES The High Commissioner reports : — LONDON, 4th May, 4.50 p.m.West of the Niemen, on Sunday, the fighting continued along the upper course of the River Szeszuppe. On Saturday evening a German battalion attacked the village of Sosnia, near Ossowiec, but was dispersed by fire from the fortress. At Bzura there have been important skirmishes in tho rear of the village of Mistrezewico. In Galicia, beginning on Saturday evening,' a battle, characterised by the greatest desperation, is developing along the front from the Lower Nida to the Carpathians. In the region of Gladycheff, on the left bank of the Vistula, during Saturday night, the enemy delivered a series of attacks, but was repulsed. In the region of Tarnow, and to the southwards, the artillery fire was most violent, and there were isolated desperate engagements, In the direction of Stryj, south-east of Holowiecko, the Russians captured Mount Makuvka, and mado 30Q prisoners, including ten officers. Oh the Dneister, on Saturday, near Zaleszczyki, the enemy made two barren attempts.
