WEATHER AND WAR

A lecture on " Weather and War " was delivered by Mr. D. C. Bates at St. Matthew's Churchroom, Brooklyn, last night. The lecture was the first of \ a series to be given fortnightly during the winter months, and a numerous audience, presided over by the Rev. R. H. Hobday, listened to it with the keenest interest. Tho lecturer dealt with the subject from the historical point of .view, ■ and also in relation to the present war. Incidentally, in answer to a question, Mr. Bates emphasised the value of historical novels, such as "The Cloister and the Hearth " and " Esmond," as a very interesting way of acquiring knowledge of different periods of history. The lecturer was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The next lecture will be later this month, by the Rev. H. F. Wilson, on " Canterbury and Winchester Cathedrals."
