In the Police Court a stevedore named Thomas Henderson was charged with unshipping a set of black furs and other articles of attire from ships in Dunedin Harbour when an entry had not been made and pased or a permit granted. Defendant told a lady in a restaurant he frequented that he could get her a hat. Eventually she went to the wharf and defendant obtained from a ship over which he had control furs, a blouse, and a hat. He told the police that he purchased them 'from a steward. In Court he pleaded guilty. The Magistrate said a person obtaining the goods was a party to fraud against the Customs, The Court inflicted the minimum penalty of £25.
