FIGHTING AT ST. ELOI OF THE FIERCEST DESCRIPTION HEAVY TOLL OF OFFICERS AT NEUVE' CHAPELLE. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received March 22, 2 p.m.) LONDON, 21st March. "Eye-Witness"' at British headquarters, referring to the fighting at St. Eloi on the 14th and 15th, says :— "lt was of the fiercest description. The Germans sustained terrible losses, ahd paid dearly for the temporary occupation of the village. They ' barricaded the streets, which they defended with machine guns. " Wo stormed these one by one, our men coming on time after time, regardless of losses, until the village was cleared. "The heavy toll of officers at Neuve Chapelle was due to the intricate coun« try, which was intersected by hedges and ditches, compelling platoon officers to advance and find a way to circumvent obstacles:" — — ~ t
