SCOW IN DISTRESS HAERE TOWED INTO GISBORNE The scow Haere, which recently put into Wellington after experiencing a most j trying time in the vicinity of Cook StAnt, lias again been in difficulties. According to Press , Association messages from Gisborne, residents of Wainui last evening observed distress signals out to sea, and communicated with the town. Tugs put out and picked up the Haere, which was fourteen days out on a trip from Wellington to Auckland. When some considerable distance off East Cape she struck a fearful storm, causing most of her sails to be blown away, and severely straining the scow. She was twice blown about one hundred miles off the coast. Captain T. Eaddy is in charge of the little vessel, and when in Wellington he related his perilous trip in Cook Strait. On this occasion the Haere was completely enveloped in several eucces* sive gales, having considerable damage done to her sails. Under exceedingly difficult conditions repairs were eventually effected, and the vessel managed to put into this port, where her cargo for Wanganui was discharged. Subsequent' ly she' sailed for Auckland.
