THE TRADE'S OPINION
"PROHIBITIONISTS DECISIVELY DEFEATED." Mr. A. E. Kernot, Dominion chairman of the governing body of all associations connected with the wholesale business and allied bodies of The Trade, interviewed, said that time had not permitted a complete analysis of the results of the licensing poll being compiled in so far as the available data .allowed, but thoro wan no doubt whatever as to the result. The people of the Dominion h»d
expressed their views in the most unmistakable manner, and the Prohibitionists had been decisively defeated. If the Bill which was before the House last session, and proposed a reduction to 55 per cent., had been carried, it would have been of material advantage to the Licensing Party, as the No-License areas would have been reduced. Generally, the. polling showed that the people of New Zealand were beginning to recognise that extremists were dangerous, and had emphatically said so.
