UNEMPLOYMENT DECREASING. TRADES UNIONISTS AT THE FRONT. (Received October 30, 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, 29th October. The Board of Trade returns show that unemployment is decreasing, the rat© now being 4.31 per centum, which is abnormally low, 'and is due to recruiting and. the exceptional activity of a number of industries engaged on Government contracts. The winter outlook is bright. Upwards of 100,000 trade unionists have enlisted, including 13,000 Yorkshire miners, 7000 postmen, 2500 boilermakers, 3000 railway men, and 3000 shop assistants. Food prices remain normal. The increase in the cost of living is not appreciable. Despite the heavy casualties Great Britain is taking the war with perfect calmness.
