♦ JUNIOR ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL REPORT. In the 19th annual report of .the Wellington Junior Cricket Association, to bo presented to delegates at the meeting this week, the committee states that the 1913-14 season was a highly satisfactory one from all points of view, but particularly membership and finance. It is, of course, possible that the present European crisis may interfere with the membership this season, but the committee can only hope that retired members will assist clubs which have temporarily lost players. Eight entries were received for the Senior Grade Cup— Thorndon, Harbour Board, Evans Bay, Austral, Kjlbirnie* Catholic, Athletic, and Miramar. Great interest was maintained throughout the season, and up to the last Saturday it, was uncertain as to the semi'flnalists. However, from results Thorndon defeated Austral, and Harbour Board won from Evans Bay. The final was a keen and interesting struggle, lasting over three Saturdays. Thorndon eventually winning. They are to be congratulated upon their success, which was not the result of runaway victories, as they were twice defeated during the season. ' Harbour Board also played well. Entries for the Junior Grade were as follow: — "A": Wanderers, Star, St, Anne's, Berhampore, Catholic, Athletic, Kilbirnie, Thistle. "B" : D.1.C., Kirkcaldie's, Selwyn, Thorndon, Druggists, Star B, and United. Semi-finals were eventually played between Star and Selwyn and St. Anne's and Thorndon, and in the final Star defeated St. Anne's after a good game extending over three days. On 22nd January a representative game was played with the Warehousemen's Association, our side winning after a hard day's, game by 2 ,wickets. On Easter M_on*day a junior match.' was arranged with the Wednesday Association^ and the result was an easy victory for our representatives. Owing to the late Ea.ster no game could be arranged with the Manawatu' Association, but it is hoped the committee can arrange a game this year. During the past year, adds the report, there has been a great deal of talk in Wellington cricket circles regarding the possible amalgamation of the three Saturday Associations ; but finally it was recognised that this was impossible, as each of the three associations was playing cricket under entirely different conditions. However, a conference of delegates from the three associations was held to discuss matters of general inter■est ? such as representative matches, relations with the City Corporation re grounds, and ao on. A good deal may result generally, while the inner workings of each association will not be interfered with. The balance-sheet shows : — Receipts, £189 16s 10d (including ground fees £119 4s 6d) ; expenditure, £144 19s (including ground fees £130 14s) ; balance in bank and in hanfl, £44 17s lOd. HUTT. CLUB REPORT. In the report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Hutt Cricket Club the committee states' .that the senior team played vine matches, but did not secure a win. "The batting average was won by A. Aldersley (25 runs per innings), J. Rogers and A. S. Staples following closely. The bowling average was won by J. Styles, who "took 28 wickets at a cost of 16 runs per wicket. In the junior team'H. Ellison won the batting average (17.7 rnns per innings), D. J. Neazor being second. The report adds that credit is due to the Ground Committee, especially Messrs. Aldersley, Styles, and Judd, lor attention to the wickets, which have been of a high order. The finances of the club are aound:, and "thanks are expressed to Messrs. A. Samuels, M. Denniston, V. Riddiford. B. Wilson, E. P. Bunny, and Dr. Hector for their support, and also to Mesdames Yeais and Judd. and Miss Yeats for the way they have attended to afternoon tea. The club regrets the loss of one of its most able ffiembers by the death of Mr. A. L. Pringle, and the report concludes by mentioning that three members have joined the Expeditionary Force, namely, Messrs. E. Kitto 3 W. M'Caw, and D. Yeats. A friendly match was played between the Hutt Club and the Victoria College eleven on Saturday, the result being a win for the 'Varsity men by 114 runs to 56.
