MR. H. LAUDER ENTERTAINED. The newly-ielected chieftain of the Wellington Scottish Society, Mr. Harry Lauder, was entertained by the members of the committee and their wives on. Sunday last. The party, numbering twenty-five, left the city in the morning and drove to the Tadta in a brake, the journey being enlivened by the skirling of the bagpipes. The guest of honour wore his Highland dress, and many others of the oarty were similarly attired. On arrival at the Taita Hotel, luncheon was served in the spacious dining-room, the place being decorated with tartan ribbon and white heath. After roaming around the garden and taking snapshots, the party again mounted the conveyance and drove to the Nai Nai. Here they were received^ at "Balgownie" by the t Hon. J. Duthie, M.L.C., and his family. Mr. Duthie personally received and conducted his guests over his beautiful estate. After an hour's pleasant wandering through the well kept grounds the party adjourned to the house, where refreshments were partaken of and Mr. Lauder's health proposed, and also a hearty vote of thanks and appreciation were accorded Mr. Duthie and his family for their hospitality. Just before leaving, Mr. Foster, the society's chief, presented Mr. Duthie, his sons and granddaughter with the badge of the society in honour of Mr. Lauder's visit. A similar presentation was made to two of Mr, Duthie's friends who ably assisted him in entertaining. After greetings and good wishes had been exchanged, the party returned to Wellington with the knowledge of having spent a day long to be remembered.
