VISITING SCIENTISTS

By the Riverina, which left Sydney for 'Auckland yesterday, a number of the American scientists who have been attending the meetings of the British Association in Australia, sailed from New Zealand. The visitors will include: — Sir Ernest Rutherford, Mrs. Hopkinson, 'Dr | Clowes, Dr. Davenport, professor of experimental biology, Carnegie Institute, New Yoik ; Messrs. Ball, Ferrar, Hobson, Allovge, and Woodward. Lady Rutherford is at present in Christchurch. The following scientists will arrive at a later date : — rrofessor H. B. Dixon; Professor Brown, astronomer, Yale University; Dr. Nicholson, professor of mathematics,' King's College, London; Dr. Thornton, professor of engineering, Newcastle-on-Tyne; Dr. Briggs. agriculturist; and Dr. Rendle, keeper of botany, British Museum.
