PROPOSALS OF THE GOVERNMENT The Public Revenues Amendment Bill, brought down by Governor's Message in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, proposes to enable the Government to make t£ie necessary financial arrangements for tiding over the present crisis. Under the Act of 1910 tlw Government is empowered to borrow up to a million pounds on Treasury bills. The present Bill increases the power of borrowing under this head to n, million and a-half. and it is also provided that the, amount so raised shall be available for the purposes of the Public Works fund a-s well as for the Consolidated Fund. • In addition* to these powers the Minister of Finance is empowered to borrow an extra two millions on the security of Treasury bills during tho current financial year. The amount of money that may be issued by way of general imprest is increased from £20,000 to £50,000, and the Paymaster-General may, further, in' lieu of • making payments by way of impitest, establish a credit with the bank in favour of any public officer.
